AI-based Scientific Writing Training Blends with the Warmth of Halal Bi Halal ICP FMIPA UNM

Makassar, 18 April 2025 – Located in the FH Hall of the Department of Mathematics FMIPA Makassar State University, in an effort to improve the quality of human resources, Pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PKM) Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM) held an activity entitled ‘Training in Academic Writing Skills Through the Utilisation of AI Technology for ICP Mentors FMIPA UNM’ which was funded through the FMIPA PNBP fund for Fiscal Year 2025.

The activity organised by the UNM Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) team was guided by two main speakers, namely Muhammad Ammar Naufal, M.Ed., Ph.D. and Andi Citra Pratiwi, S.Pd., M.Ed. Both presented refreshing and applicable material on effective academic writing strategies, especially for international tests such as IELTS with the support of AI technology.

One of the participants, Farhan, expressed his enthusiasm after attending the session. “The material presented by Mrs. Citra and Mr. Ammar was extraordinary. I just found out that there are many requirements in doing the IELTS test, one of which must have the three main structures that were explained earlier. I also just found out that there is an AI website that can be used to learn IELTS and is better than ChatGPT. I hope that with the material presented, I can learn and improve my writing skills,” he said.

Interestingly, this training was also coupled with the Halal Bi Halal moment which became a warm space to strengthen the relationship between the FMIPA ICP Student Community (FISCo) Forum management, ICP mentors, and the secretary and deputy secretary of ICP FMIPA UNM. In a warm post-Eid atmosphere, all elements of ICP FMIPA UNM forgive each other and strengthen their commitment to collaborate for mutual progress.

Representatives from the ICP secretariat expressed their appreciation for the implementation of this activity, while inviting all elements to continue to build a progressive and humanist academic ecosystem.

This training not only improves academic skills, but also instils the value of togetherness and collaborative spirit. With the integration of AI technology in the learning process, the mentors are expected to be the driving force of positive changes to the quality of education at FMIPA UNM.
